Brave Dog Saves Owner's Family from Cougar

When the cougar was spotted, the family dog unafraid rushed out to protect its owner's family of children.

The incident occurred in Cedar Hill City (Utah) when a dog named Ella was lying on the porch while the owner's children were playing in the backyard. Suddenly, Ella noticed the appearance of the "uninvited guest" and barked.

“Ella was lying on the porch watching the kids play in the yard and all of a sudden she was acting wary and barking to warn me of something. My kids thought Ella found something. Worrying,” says Crystal Michaelis, Ella’s owner.

When the kids ran into the house and looked out, they saw what looked like a cougar. A fierce battle ensues between Ella and the cougar. Ella's ferocity caused the cougar to flee, and the dog was bitten in more than 30 places, blood spilling all over the yard.

Michaelis' family quickly took the pet dog to a veterinarian to have the wound repaired. The doctor said that all the wounds were on the front of Ella's body. Fortunately, none of the wounds hurt the arteries, otherwise, Ella would hardly survive.

"Ella has never let us down, she did everything she could to keep our family safe. Luckily, Ella showed up in time to remind my kids to come in in time, otherwise, I wouldn't know what was going on," Cristo Micheli S added.

At present, Ella is receiving treatment, and her injuries are gradually recovering, while the authorities of Cedar Hill City are looking for the whereabouts of the cougar that attacked Ella.

Representatives of the Cedar Hills Municipal Government said that it is not uncommon for mountain lions to appear near residential areas, but it is rare for mountain lions to attack people.

The puma (also known as the puma, or cougar leopard) is a large cat in the cat family. It is distributed throughout the Americas, extending from Canada to the southern Andes of South America. It is the most widely distributed species in the world. Terrestrial mammals of the Western Hemisphere.

Cougars vary in size, depending on where they live. Males typically weigh 52 to 100 kg and females 29 to 64 kg. They hunt at night, mainly deer, but also eat many mammals such as coyotes, raccoons, mice, elk, wild boar, and porcupines.

Although mountain lions always try to avoid humans, there are many cases of people being attacked by mountain lions, especially when people enter the wrong mountain lion hunting area. There have been many cases of climbers or cyclists being attacked and killed by mountain lions.

According to wildlife experts, when humans face a cougar, it's important to remain calm, stand up straight, and walk back slowly without approaching or running away suddenly. In particular, never bend over in front of a cougar. If a cougar approaches, make every effort to look scary by clapping your hands, yelling, and throwing everything you can at the animal, especially in the head area. If an animal attack occurs, find ways to fight back.
