The American Guy Earns More than 100,000 Dollars per Year by Walking His Pet

Starting a dog walking service as a side hustle, but after 20 years, this job has brought the American guy a desirable income, even though he only works 36 hours a week.

When he was a child, his family often assigned Stewart to walk the dog. In 2002, he started walking pets as a side job to earn extra income. Currently, thanks to the reputation accumulated over 20 years, he earns up to 120,000 USD/year (more than 2.8 billion VND) from this job.

According to Stewart's share, although only working 6 hours/week, this job requires great care and concentration. "In this area, you will pay dearly even if you are negligent. For example, if you don't notice a dog's tail gets caught in the door, it will cost you $2,000 to take that dog to the vet. y," he said.

As difficult as it is, Stewart insists that the job brings more benefits than annoyances.

To date, Stewart has been able to earn more thanks to his reputation in the field. He charges about 20-25 USD per dog. Half of the customers know him by referring friends, and the other half know him through his website.

Due to the increasing number of orders, Stewart has to be strict about the process of choosing the right customers to work with, and he only accepts 10% of the service requests he receives from the website.

Stewart's work schedule consists of 2-3 hours in the morning, and 2-3 hours in the afternoon from Monday to Friday, 1-2 hours on Saturday, and he always takes Sunday off. To do this job well, he also sets many strict rules for himself, such as: always wearing a collar and leash when taking your pet out on the street.

Besides, he often walks the dog in groups, because according to him, this will help the dogs have the opportunity to socialize. Occasionally, he still releases a leash for a few obedient, observant dogs.

Although this made his customers a little nervous, it was this method that helped him build a brand.

Stewart shared, this job has many disadvantages. He had to pay for his health insurance, got no paid leave, and had to clean up dog poop.

The hardest part of this job is dealing with the pet owner. When the Covid-19 pandemic broke out, his customers created more work pressure for him. They asked him to equip him with more cameras and tracking devices. This is something that he is not satisfied with because it is both distracting and makes him feel more pressured.

The bad side is that, but the pandemic has also brought great development to this service industry. In 2019, the pet service industry grossed $97.1 billion. In 2021, this number jumps to $123.6 billion.
